A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last thirty years—from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to the post-Taliban rebuilding—that puts the violence, fear, hope, and faith of this country in intimate, human terms.
After The Kite Runner, Khaled is again brilliantly wrote this book. He is one of the few authors who really paid attention to details.

I love Mariam, Laila and Azizah. You know what, I ‘m speechless how to describe how much I’m into this book.

Mariam’s sacrifice to Laila..Laila devotion to Mariam..Tariq’s love..Rasheed’s obessions, Jalil’s arrogance.

Did I say I was moved to tears by this book?

The story is too long, in Indonesia we call it “bertele-tele.”

In fact, I hate Gogol the main character here. I think he’s very unappreciative toward his parents by changing his name..just because he hates the sound of it. However, my heart goes to his parents, Ashima and Ashoke. I can’t put it into words, they seem so hopelessly innocent in the foreign country.

Sorry to say I feel like wanting to slap Gogol’s wife’s face for her infedility. Hate her!

Actually I like the movie version better than the book. In the movie, Gogol seems not to nyebelin ;)
